Lifetime Licenses Won by Two Young Anglers

National Fishing and Boating Week (NF&BW) is an annual tradition that uplifts and encourages our state’s youngest residents to get out and fish. In recognition of NF&BW, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission annually sponsors events across the state, encouraging families and youth to drop a line and try to catch a big one…as well as some amazing prizes.

Over 20 fishing events took place statewide this year. Twenty-five children won some pretty sweet swag, ranging from fishing poles, tackle boxes, water bottles and waterproof Bluetooth speakers to lifetime licenses.

The grand prize this year was a Unified Sportsman/Coastal Recreational Fishing Lifetime License donated by Neuse Sport Shop in Kinston. The second-place prize was a Comprehensive Inland Fishing Lifetime License donated by North Carolina Council of Trout Unlimited.

Our grand prize winner was Elsa Vue. Elsa is an 8-year-old from Connelly Springs who attended the fishing event at McGalliard Falls Park in Valdese. She was incredibly overjoyed to be gifted the lifetime license, which will allow her to hunt with her grandpa and spend more time outdoors. Her dad, brother, cousins and aunt all attended the presentation of her license at the Wildlife Commission meeting on July 14.

The second-place prize was won by Carson Gates. Carson, from Kinston, is 9-years-old and enjoys all sports. He says he loves fishing because of the enjoyment of reeling in the fish. His favorite ways to fish are with a cork and cricket, and he also likes surf fishing. He attended the fishing event in Kinston at Neuseway Nature Park. Carson caught several small catfish and one decent sized catfish that day and is very thankful for the lifetime license prize.

Next year’s NF&BW is sure to be just as fun, but why wait? It’s always a good time to go fishing. Public Fishing Access Areas around the state can be found via our interactive Fishing Access Map. Need a license? Save time and buy online.

See ya on the water!
