Establish a lasting legacy by gifting your land for wildlife habitat or improved access to North Carolina’s waterways.

There is no better way to establish the legacy of your commitment to our state’s resources than making your land available for conservation purposes and the benefit of future generations.  If you own property that is compatible with existing conservation or public access programs of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, you may wish to consider the tax benefits of donating your land for one of the following purposes:

  • Conservation Lands – lands managed to provide for wildlife habitats and public opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife observation.  Properties offered for donation within, adjacent, or in close proximity to existing conservation lands will receive priority consideration.  Contact the Wildlife Management Division at (919) 707-0050.
  • Boating Access Areas – provides the boating public with free access to the state’s waters.  Properties offered for donation adjacent to state waters in locations suitable for boating access development will receive priority consideration.  Contact the Division of Engineering Services at (919) 707-0150
  • Public Fishing Access Areas – provides the fishing public with free access to the banks of the state’s lakes, rivers, streams, and reservoirs.  These sites are generally enhanced by clearing the banks of underbrush, constructing universally accessible fishing piers, creating parking areas, and installing fish attractors.  Contact the Inland Fisheries Division at (919) 707- 0220.

If you are interested in donating your property and believe that it contains conservation value or offers opportunities for public boating or fishing access, please contact the numbers listed for additional information.

We encourage you to consult with qualified tax and legal professionals before deciding to relinquish ownership of your property.
