Basic Rod Building Course- Jan. 2018

This course is free of charge and all tools and materials are provided. Students will learn the basic techniques necessary to assemble their own custom fishing rod. Each student will build a 6ft medium action spinning rod from an IM6 blank, which they may keep on completion of the course. Topics covered in this course include:

· Finding the rod spine
· Prepping guides and handles for installation
· Guide spacing
· Basic guide wraps
· Applying epoxy

The course will be limited to 15 students due to space limitations and pre-registration is required. Due to the length and complexity of this program, it is not recommended for youth under the age of 16 years old.

  The course will begin at 8:00am with check-in beginning at 7:30am in the main building's classroom. Students will work at their own pace under with guidance from staff and volunteers. Epoxy will be applied to threads as the final step and rods will need to dry overnight. They may be picked up beginning Monday, January 13th, 2018.
