Federal Duck Stamp

In addition to the North Carolina waterfowl privilege, waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and older are required to carry on their person the federal duck stamp, signed in ink across the face. Federal duck stamps can be obtained at most U.S. post offices or from selected wildlife service agents. Visit www.duckstamp.com to order the duck stamp online or to find the duck stamp retailer nearest you. The federal duck stamp expires on June 30 of each year.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Stamps purchased online from www.duckstamp.com are NOT available for immediate use. To purchase a federal duck stamp which is available for immediate use please see “Purchase a Federal Duck Stamp Online” below.

Purchase a Federal Duck Stamp Online

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has implemented a pilot program, giving customers the option to purchase the federal duck stamp online. The online stamp (also called electronic stamp) is valid for 45 days from the date of purchase and authorizes the customer to use it immediately following the purchase. After 45 days, the customer must carry the federal duck stamp while hunting. The federal duck stamp will be mailed to the customer and should be received within that 45 days.

Currently, there are 8 states, nationwide, that are participating in this pilot program. Unfortunately, at the present time, North Carolina is unable to offer this service. However, as a public service, the N. C. Wildlife Resources Commission has received approval from each of these states to provide a link to their online license purchasing locations on their websites, where the stamps can be purchased. The 8 states in this pilot program are listed below. Click on the state name to be taken directly to that state’s online license purchasing location.

Arkansas

Florida

Maryland

Texas

Colorado

Idaho

Minnesota

Wisconsin

Please remember, if you experience problems during your purchase of the online stamp or with the receipt of your duck stamp, it is important that you contact the state from which you made the purchase since that information will be in their system and not with North Carolina. Also, it is important that you have a printer so you will be able to print the electronic stamp. If you have questions about purchasing an online stamp from one of these states, you can click on the name of that state to be taken to their website and then locate their contact information and contact them directly with your questions.
