Wildlife Agency Confirms First Case of CWD in Franklin County, North Carolina

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) confirms a 2.5-year-old female white-tailed deer harvested in Franklin County has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The deer was hunter-harvested during firearms season and represents the first detection of the disease in Franklin County.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 17, 2023) – After 20 years of living only in captivity, the federally endangered Magnificent Ramshorn has been returned to the wild. On Nov. 16, 2023, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) reintroduced 2,000 of these aquatic snails into a pond on NCWRC Game Lands in Brunswick County

Dates Announced for State’s Annual Winter Trout Stockings

Anglers, get your fishing gear ready. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) will soon stock more than 67,000 trout from its Bobby N. Setzer and Armstrong state fish hatcheries into 44 small lakes and ponds located in the state’s Mountain and Piedmont regions.
