Other Free Kids’ Fishing Events Being Held throughout State

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 11, 2014) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is hosting a free kids’ fishing event will be held this Saturday, June 14 from 9 a.m. to noon, at Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City.

The event, one of nearly 40 free kids’ fishing events being held in celebration of National Boating and Fishing Week, is open to the first 50 kids 15 and younger. Interested participants can pre-register by emailing jeremy.mccargo@ncwildlife.org or they can register the day of the event.

All events are supported by the Commission, in cooperation with Neuse Sport Shop, N.C. State Council of Trout Unlimited and the U.S. Forest Service. Participants registered at any listed event will be entered into a statewide drawing to win more than 150 fishing-related prizes. The grand prize is a lifetime sportsman license, which includes fishing privileges in freshwater and saltwater, as well as hunting privileges, donated by Neuse Sport Shop in Kinston. The first prize is a lifetime freshwater fishing license, donated by the N. C. State Council of Trout Unlimited.

Neuse Sport Shop is donating fishing-related prizes, such as tackle boxes, rod-and-reel combos and fishing line, while the Wildlife Commission is donating prizes as well. The Commission will conduct the drawing for the prizes in late June. The names of winners, as well as their prizes, will be posted on the Commission’s website, www.ncwildlife.org.
