Blewett Falls Public Fishing Area Closed to Fishing for Several Weeks

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 25, 2010) – The Blewett Falls Public Fishing Area, located at the Blewett Falls Dam in Anson County, will be closed to fishing at various times for the next several weeks as workers install equipment to improve dissolved oxygen in the discharge below the Blewett Plant.

“The closures are necessary in order for workers to install the new equipment,” said Lawrence Dorsey, N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission biologist. “Progress Energy will try to minimize the impacts to fishermen, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding.”

In the meantime, anglers wanting to fish in nearby waters can visit Hinson Lake, Hamlet City Lake and Indian Camp Lake, all located in Richmond County and within a 30-minute drive from Blewett Falls Dam.
