RALEIGH, N.C. (November 10, 2009) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is alerting residents that the state currently has no confirmed cases of Chronic Wasting Disease in deer.
A newspaper erroneously reported a deer was diagnosed with CWD last week. A deer was tested for epizootic hemorrhagic disease, a more common infectious disease among white-tailed deer. The results have not been confirmed yet.
For more information on hemorrhagic disease, click here. Sick or dead deer should be reported to wildlife personnel by calling (919) 707-0050.
The Commission tested about 1,400 deer for CWD this year, and no CWD was found.
