RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 15, 2004) — Jim Borawa, a fisheries supervisor for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and a recent graduate of the N.C. Certified Public Manager (CPM) program, has received the Askew Award from the American Academy of Certified Public Managers.
Borawa was given the award in recognition of his project, “The Functional and Organizational Assessment of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s Stream Restoration Program.” He will be presented with a medallion at the academy’s annual meeting in Manchester, N.H., in September 2005. The Askew Award recognizes
student projects that demonstrate superior understanding of the principles
and practices learned from the CPM program.
Borawa’s project focused on improving the effectiveness of the
Wildlife Commission’s stream restoration program by integrating
the expertise of the Commission’s Inland Fisheries, Wildlife Management,
Engineering Services, Enforcement and Conservation Education divisions
to help restore the fish and wildlife habitats associated with degraded
streams. “Jim’s project is an excellent example of the trends in fisheries management,” said his supervisor, Shannon Deaton.“ He cares greatly about the state’s aquatic and terrestrial resources and understands how important the interaction and quality of both can be.” Borawa, one of 70 candidates statewide who graduated from the program, was recognized at an Oct. 4 graduation ceremony held at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. For more information about the CPM, contact Jean Waters, Office of State Personnel, at (919) 733-9677. |
