RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 24, 2004) — Charles Fullwood, executive director of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, retired today after 36 years of service to the agency.

Deputy Director Richard Hamilton will serve as interim executive director until the Wildlife Commission names a permanent replacement at its Oct. 6 meeting in Raleigh.

Fullwood served as the Commission’s executive director for 19 years. Previously, he worked as chief of the boating access program and assistant director for operations for the Commission.

Commission Chairman John Pechmann thanked Fullwood for his service to the agency. Pechmann pledged to provide “continuing leadership that is of the highest order in integrity and stability.”

Since its inception in 1947, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has been dedicated to the wise-use, conservation, and management of the state’s fish and wildlife resources. Nineteen wildlife commissioners create and maintain laws and regulations governing hunting, fishing and boating activities based on input from the Commission’s wildlife and fisheries biologists, wildlife enforcement officers, educators, engineers and administrative staff.
