RALEIGH, N.C. (April 22, 2005) — A proposal to allow only archery hunting on a portion of Mayo Game Land will be the subject of a public hearing in Roxboro on Thursday, April 28. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, which manages the 6,831-acre public game land in Person County, has proposed the creation of an Archery Hunting Only Zone around the shoreline of Mayo Lake. The proposed Archery Zone, totaling 1,040 acres, would vary from 20 to 200 feet in width between elevations of 434 and 450 feet above mean sea level. The Wildlife Commission will hear public comments on the proposal beginning at 7 p.m. on the thirdfloor of the Person County Courthouse. Attendees are asked to use the Lamar Street entrance. See
