RALEIGH, N.C. (April 13, 2005) — On April 27, hundreds of wild animals will be present in the lobby of the North Carolina Legislative Building, in the form of artwork entries to the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission youth art contest “Go Wild.” Lawmakers at the Jones Street address in Raleigh will have to hunt no further than the 1100 wing to view a sample of the nearly 2,000 entries that were submitted by youths, ages 5-18, last fall. “The purpose of the competition was to promote sportsmanship, outdoor activities and an appreciation for our natural environment among youth,” said Commission Chairman John Pechmann. “Young people are the chief benefactors and future guardians of wildlife in North Carolina.” Thirty-six entries were selected to appear in a 2006 Young Wildlife Artist calendar to be published by the Commission later this year. The works were judged by artists Bob Timberlake, Patricia Savage and David Williams. The display will move from the Legislative Building to the Legislative Office Building next door for display April 28-May 6. |
