RALEIGH, N.C. (July 25, 2005) – “It’s really cool winning a lifetime fishing license ‘cause you can spend a lot of money on fishing licenses, you know,” said Robbinsville angler Tesa Anderson after learning she’d won one of seven lifetime fishing licenses, the grand prizes in a statewide drawing to celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week, June 4-12. Tesa, 12, along with five other young anglers from across the state, traveled to Raleigh on July 13 to receive their lifetime fishing licenses and certificates from John Pechmann, chairman of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission during the Commissioners’ meeting. The licenses, donated by Progress Energy and the Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsman, are valued at $250 each. They give the young anglers fishing privileges in all of North Carolina’s public, inland waters, including designated Public Mountain Trout Waters.
Accompanying Tesa to Raleigh were her mother, Wendy Anderson, grandmother Gina Rogers, and step-grandfather, Mark Rogers. Along with Tesa and her family, the other winners and their families in attendance were:
Winners were randomly selected from more than 3,000 other young anglers statewide who participated in 34 fishing events held across the state during National Fishing and Boating Week. In addition to the lifetime fishing licenses, Bass Pro Shops and the Wildlife Commission gave away 130 fishing-related prizes, including rods and reels, tackle boxes and fishing towels.
