Watha State Fish Hatchery Closed to the Public

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 17, 2005) – The Watha State Fish Hatchery, operated by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, will be closed to the public until June 2006 due to extensive renovations.

The Wildlife Commission is installing a water re-use system at the Pender County hatchery to improve the drainage and water supply systems. The Commission also is constructing a fish production building that will increase the production of striped bass, American shad, channel catfish and other warm water fish needed for fishery management programs in North Carolina.
