“Go Wild” Youth Art Competition Hits the Road

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 20, 2005) Wild animals are touring wildlife and conservation education centers across the state this summer, in the form of artwork entries to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s youth art contest, “Go Wild.”

“The purpose of the competition is to promote sportsmanship, outdoor activities and an appreciation for our natural environment among youth,” said Commission Chairman John Pechmann. “Young people are the chief benefactors and future guardians of wildlife in North Carolina.”

Thirty-six entries selected to appear in a 2006 Young Wildlife Artist calendar also will be on view on the Commission’s Web site (Click here to view selections). Finalists were selected by artists Bob Timberlake, Patricia Savage and David Williams. Selected artists will be notified on May 20.

All entrants will receive certificates of appreciation, to be mailed in June. Entrants whose submissions were accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope will have their artwork returned in August. The 2006 calendar will be published in the fall.
