RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 25, 2005) – Applicants for any of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s special hunt opportunities can now find results online. The Wildlife Commission’s Web site, www.ncwildlife.org, has a new feature on the home page that provides permit draw information to individual hunters. By entering a WRC number — the seven-digit identification code that appears on hunting and fishing licenses, big game tags and vessel registrations — or North Carolina driver’s license number, applicants for special hunts can see whether they have been selected. For hunts in which the drawing has not yet taken place, the applicant’s status is listed as pending. Previously, applicants for a special hunt learned they were successful either by calling the Commission or upon receiving a permit in the mail. “Now they can see all the information and get it at their leisure,” said Daron Barnes, supervisor of the Special Hunts and Permits unit. Permit hunts provide a means for the Commission to manage sensitive game species, such as tundra swans, or to make special hunts available. Special hunts are high-quality, low-participation events held on game lands or on private lands where access is controlled and limited to permit holders. Special hunts are also held for specific segments of the sporting public such as youths or disabled hunters. For
more information about special hunts, consult the Special
Hunt Opportunities booklet, available online or wherever North
Carolina
hunting and fishing licenses are sold.
