RALEIGH, N.C. (June 12, 2006) - Wheelin’ Sportsmen and the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will host a Catfish Roundup, a free fishing event for disabled anglers, on June 24 at Howell Woods Environmental Education Center in Four Oaks, southeast of Raleigh.

The event is part of an initiative by the Commission’s Disabled Sportsman Program to create more outdoor recreation activities that accommodate handicapped participants. Wheelin’ Sportsmen, a program of the National Wild Turkey Federation, works to provide outdoor enthusiasts with disabilities the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities.

The Catfish Roundup begins at 8 a.m. A free lunch will be served when fishing concludes at noon.

A limited number of rod and reels will be available through the Wildlife Resources Commission’s Tackle Loaner Program, so anglers are advised to bring their own gear if possible.

Howell Woods Environmental Education Center is located at 6601 Devils Racetrack Road, Four Oaks. Directions are available online at www.johnstoncc.edu/howellwoods/directions.htm.

More information on the Catfish Roundup may be obtained by calling (919) 707-0059.
