Pellet Rifle Range is Popular with Kids at the State Fair  

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 18, 2006) – Just like a “hit the target, win a prize” shooting gallery, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission’s free pellet rifle range at the State Fair is very popular with the younger crowd.

But unlike those shooting galleries, the Commission’s pellet rifle range offers something more valuable than a stuffed animal for a take-home prize.

“This is a great way to demonstrate safe shooting techniques to kids,” said Capt. Chris Huebner, the hunter safety coordinator for the Commission. “Pellet guns are fun, but they’re not toys. There’s a responsibility involved.”

The pellet rifle range is located adjacent to the Commission’s Wildlife Action Plan exhibit and is manned by certified hunter safety instructors and wildlife enforcement officers, “so the kids have a good experience and walk away with increased safety awareness,” Huebner said.
