RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 6, 2006) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has added one new member to its governing board and has elected a new chairman and vice-chairman. Dell Murphy of Wallace took his oath last week during the Wildlife Resources Commission’s August meeting. Murphy was appointed to a two-year term by Mark Basnight, president pro tempore of the State Senate. He was sworn in by N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. Vice-chairman Wes Seegars of Goldsboro was elected chairman by the Commissioners. He replaces John E. Pechmann, who was serving a fourth term as chairman when he died unexpectedly on July 15. Steve Windham of Winnabow was elected vice-chairman. A self-described avid hunter and angler, Murphy is actively involved in managing the wildlife on a 6,000-acre tract in Bladen County, a 2,300-acre tract in Duplin County as well as 10,000-plus acre tract in Missouri. He sees several wildlife-related problems facing North Carolinians and hopes to address them during his tenure as Commissioner. Among these problems are poaching, predators of small game animals and coyotes. Murphy is president of Murphy Family Ventures LLC in Wallace. He and his wife, Wendy, have three children, Samantha, Wen and Regan. Seegars is president of Seegars Fence Company headquartered in Goldsboro. He and his wife, Jacque, have two sons, Ben and John, and a daughter, Sallie Batchelor. Windham is owner of Windham Distributing in Wilmington. He and his wife, Cheryl, have two sons, Blair and John Thomas. The 19-member Commission establishes policies and regulations governing hunting, fishing and boating activities in North Carolina. Members serve until reappointed or replaced.
