Wildlife Resources Commission at 2006 Mountain State Fair

FLETCHER, N.C. (Sept. 8, 2006) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will have an informative and interactive presence at this year’s Mountain State Fair, but the emphasis will really be all about fun.

The Wildlife Resources Commission exhibit will be located at site 23, where kid-friendly displays include a mobile aquarium filled with aquatic life and the popular, hands-on “Sensory Safari” with pelts, taxidermy specimens and animal bones. Wildlife Resources Commission biologists, educators and law enforcement officers will be on hand, to answer questions or just share information.

Abigail Breeden, 3, and her grandmother Beth Schmidt made the drive from Ninety-Six, S.C., to see the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission's exhibit on the opening day of the Mountain State Fair.

The opening-day crowd at the Mountain State Fair flocked to see Wildlife Enforcement's Sensory Safari trailer.

And there will be giveaways. Visitors can receive a complimentary issue of the award-winning Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, a collectible button (this year featuring Rafinesque’s big-eared bat) and kids can get a “Habitat’s Where It’s At!” wrist band.

The 2006 Mountain State Fair is scheduled for Sept. 8-17 at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center fairgrounds, located near the Asheville Airport. For more information, go online to www.mountainfair.org or call (828) 687-1414.
