Kids! Fish for Free This Weekend and Register to Win Some Great Prizes

RALEIGH, N.C. (May 29, 2007) – Hey kids! Are you fishing for something to do this weekend that’s fun AND free? If so, click here to see what free fishing events are being held in your area during the next two weeks in celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week, June 2-10.

While you’re fishing, be sure to register for one of 100 fishing-related prizes, donated by Bass Pro Shops. And if you win one of three lifetime freshwater/saltwater fishing licenses, donated by Progress Energy, you’ll never have to pay to fish in North Carolina—ever!

Supported by the U.S. Forest Service, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and other local sponsors, these fishing events are a great way for young anglers to:

  • Learn fishing basics, such as casting, knot tying and tackle selection;
  • View demonstrations, such as catch-and-release fishing and boating safety;
  • Fish for a variety of game fishes stocked by the Wildlife Resources Commission, including trout in the mountains and channel catfish in the Piedmont and coastal regions

National Fishing and Boating Week, coordinated each year in June by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF), gives children and their families an opportunity to learn about conserving aquatic resources while enjoying the thrill of fishing and boating. For more information on National Fishing and Boating Week, visit RBFF’s Web site, http://www.nationalfishingandboatingweek.org.
