HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

Following is an overview on how to use this guide.

1. Hunts are organized by species, then region (Coastal, Piedmont, Mountain), then hunt area (Game Land or Refuge). Determine what species you desire to hunt. 2. Select potential hunt area(s). Reference map located at the front of this guide. 3. Go to the appropriate species section and find the area that interests you.

4. Make note of the item number, hunt date(s) and choice(s) you wish to apply for. Refer to the Game Land or Refuge Area Reference Information section of this guide for important information specific to the area. Refer to the Regulations Digest for regulations and local laws as they pertain to the hunt and hunt area.

5. Read the Application Procedures section for instructions on applying for permits. Follow the instructions carefully.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Those applying for permit hunting opportunities may apply at a wildlife service agent (referred to as agent), online at www.ncwildlife.org, or by telephone on or after July 1, unless otherwise specified.

How to Apply at an Agent

1. Select the Permit Hunting Opportunity(s) you are interested in by reviewing this guide. Write down the item number(s) and hunt choice(s) in order of preference. If applicable, you may choose up to five choices per item number.

2. Take this information with you to the agent and be prepared to give your WRC Customer ID Number (7 digits) that can be found on your current or expired license. You may apply only once per hunt item number. Multiple applications for the same hunt item number will be disqualified from the drawings. You will only be allowed one permit per hunt date.

Important: If you have ever had a license issued by the Commission, it is important that you attempt to provide your WRC Customer ID number to the agent. Issuance of a new customer ID number, when one already exists in the system, could appear to be a duplicate application and may disqualify your application in the hunt drawing.

3. Applicants will be asked if they wish to “join an existing party.” Those applicants who do not want to start a party hunt should answer “no.” This will allow them to proceed and provide the selected hunt item/choices, which should be ranked in order of preference. Individuals who wish to hunt together should apply as a “party.” An individual applying to an existing party will be asked if he or she wishes to “join an existing party.” This hunter should answer “yes” and give the agent the item number and “Party ID Number.” (This number is issued to the individual who started the party hunt—it must be entered at the time of application).

Facts: The odds in favor of being selected as a party are no different than those of being selected as an individual. Applying as a party ensures all applicants in the party will be selected or not selected.

Tip: If you establish a party hunt and want someone to join your party hunt application, you must provide the additional hunter with your item number and Party ID Number shown on your receipt. Additional hunters must use this number when applying for a permit. Party applications that do not meet the mini-mum party size will be disqualified from the drawing. Minimum and maximum party sizes are listed under the hunt descriptions.

4. Before leaving the agent location, verify that all of the information on your receipt is correct, including your address. An error at the application stage could put you in a drawing for the wrong hunt or disqualify you entirely from the hunt opportunity(s). If you find an error, it is important to have the agent void the transaction immediately and re-enter the correct information. Once the application deadlines have passed, it is not possible to make corrections or changes. It is the hunter ’s responsibility to ensure that all information entered by the agent is correct.

Important: Verify that your address is accurate before leaving the agent location. You will not receive the permit if your address is incorrect.

In the event you experience problems when applying at the agent location, have the agent void your original transaction immediately or contact the Commission at 888-248-6834, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Agents experiencing equipment problems during an application transaction should contact the Commission’s Agent Help Line for assistance.
