General Terrain Characteristics: Habitat is southern Appalachian hardwoods with natural white pine stands. Several good trout streams on property. Toxaway Game Land is very rugged and steep property with limited road access.

Special Equipment and Planning Needs: In addition to normal hunting gear, the following items may be helpful:

• The area is bordered by Gorges State Park and access to the main Auger Hole Rd. is available only by traveling on Chestnut Mountain Rd. through the state park to Turkey Pen Gap. Access is available to Toxaway Game Land and the South Carolina Crossroads Wildlife Management Area through the main entrance to Gorges State Park off N.C. Hwy. 281. • GPS, waterproof leather boots with lug soles, binoculars, topographical map, compass, game hauler or backpack.

Deer:

• White-tailed deer population is fair to poor. Numbers limited by lack of quality early-successional habitat.

• Coyotes, bobcats, and feral hogs can be taken during permit deer hunts.

Disabled:

• Contact Gorges State Park at 828-966-9099 several days ahead of the scheduled hunt to obtain updated information on the condition of the Chestnut Mountain Access Rd.
