  • Native to: can be found sporadically in the Piedmont, but most frequently in NC Coastal Plain
  • Hardiness Zone: 6-8
  • Growth Rate: rapid
  • Mature Size: 60’-80’ tall, 40’ spread
  • Moisture Requirements: prefers very moist soil and frequent inundation
  • Exposure: full to partial sun
  • Soil: prefers poorly drained, bottomland soils
  • Wildlife Benefits: White-tailed deer, turkey, squirrels, and hogs eat the acorns
