
DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS
Groups of 10 or more can interact
with a wildlife specialist through videoconferencing technology at
your closest N.C. Information Highway site. Each course covers
goals and objectives from the N.C. Standard Course of Study and includes
hands-on activities using materials shipped to your site.
Grades K-3
- AWESOME OPOSSUMS: Learn more
about the unique adaptations of North America’s
only marsupial.
- DON’T EAT ME: Explore
some of the ways that animals protect themselves from other creatures.
- SLITHERING SNAKES: Study the difference between venomous and non-venomous
snakes of North Carolina.
- WHAT’S WILD?: Determine
the characteristics of wild animals, domesticated animals and a few
special cases.
Grades 4-6
- AMPHIBIAN LIFE STRATEGIES: Dive
in and find out more about amphibian growth and development.
- BEAR NECESSITIES: Use
the same tools as N.C. Wildlife Resources biologists to learn more
about bears.
- RAPTORS: Investigate
the physiology, flight, and history of North Carolina raptors.
- WILDLIFE HABITATS: Uncover
the components of habitat, some of the habitats found in North Carolina,
and the effects of habitat loss on wildlife.
Grades 6-12
- BEAR BASICS: Use the
same tools as N.C. Wildlife Resources biologists to learn more about
bears.
- MANAGING NC WILDLIFE: Work
cooperatively to find solutions to wildlife management problems using
critical thinking and math skills.
- CANINES OF THE CAROLINAS: Examine
the role of current and historic canine species in North Carolina ecosystems.
