| Mission Statement | In July 1997 the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission approved an agency reorganization plan establishing the Division of Engineering Services. The increased magnitude, scope and frequency of engineering related projects necessitated the reorganization. This change was implemented to improve the efficiency, productivity and subsequent delivery of engineering services and project management to the agency. The primary missions of the Division of Engineering Services is to direct, plan and manage all engineering related projects for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Additionally, the Division administers the Boating Access Construction and Maintenance and Waterway Marking programs. |

Services |
The division's field staff is mainly composed of Boating Technicians who construct, maintain and renovate the NC Wildlife Resources Commission Boating Access Areas. Field staff is divided into 8 depots, which span across the Coastal, Piedmont and Mountain Regions of North Carolina. These depots include Bellcross Depot (Camden, NC), New Bern Depot (New Bern, NC), Chinquapin Depot (Wallace, NC), Fayetteville Depot (Fayetteville, NC), Weldon Depot (Weldon, NC), Troy Depot (Troy, NC), Marion Depot (Marion, NC), Balsam Depot (Waynesville, NC). Every year the NCWRC issues fishing tournament weigh-in and special use permits for each NCWRC Boating Access Area (BAA). The main purpose of these permits is to ensure that multiple events are not occurring at the same time at any site thereby helping to manage congestion and user accessibility. Currently, these permits are issued at no fee and are mailed to an organization’s contact so that it will be available on-site during the special event or tournament weigh-in. |
| Division Programs |
The Boating Access Design, Construction and Maintenance program utilizes 85% of the Division's budget, primarily due to the operation and maintenance of over 185 public boating access areas across the state. These access areas allow free 24-hour access to 80 different bodies of water in North Carolina. Find a boating access area by region here. The Waterway Marking program includes the maintenance of over 1200 buoys and navigational aids statewide. This program conforms to the US Coast Guard Uniform Waterway Marking System. Boating Technicians also help to maintain this project. Capital Project Coordination is the planning and managing of all architectural and engineering services to the agency. NC Wildlife Resources Commission serves as a link between the State Construction Office, designers, and contractors. The Raleigh office staff administers this program. |
