All About Mountain Trout - Marion State Fish Hatchery (10/25/18) *M

All About Mountain Trout - NC Wildlife Resources Commission Marion State Fish Hatchery, located at 645 Fish Hatchery Road, Marion, McDowell County, NC. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about and fish for mountain trout. The workshop will include information on trout life history, habitat needs, and trout management in NC, with an emphasis on Brook Trout conservation. Participants will learn about general spin-fishing and fly-fishing methods to catch trout, knot tying and fishing tips, and learn about trout regulations and how to find places to go fishing. Participants will also have the opportunity to fish for trout in one of the ponds located at the hatchery.

All About Mountain Trout - Valle Crucis (11/1/18) *M

Please join me at Valle Crucis Community Park, Watauga County, for a 5-hour Criteria II / III workshop offering participants the opportunity to learn about and fish for mountain trout. The workshop will include information on trout life history, habitat needs, and trout management in NC, with an emphasis on Brook Trout conservation. The day will be spent inside and outside, and will include an opportunity to observe and assist with a NC Wildlife Resources Commission trout stocking on the Watauga River. All About Elk - Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation (11/5/18) *M

This workshop, led by NC Wildlife Resources Commission educators Kevin Hining & Tanya Poole, will focus on elk in North Carolina. A majority of the workshop will be spent learning about the life history and current research on elk, as well as activities that can be incorporated into educational programs. Information on how to coexist with elk will be provided. Participants will also tour the wildlife habitats at Grandfather Mountain with Grandfather Mountain staff, and observe elk up close. The workshop provides 6 hrs. Criteria II or III credit towards the NC Environmental Education Certification, or 0.6 CEU credit.

Project WILD workshops are for adults interested in teaching young people about wildlife. Participants receive the Project WILD K-12 educator guide along with materials specifically about North Carolina wildlife. The educator guide contains more than 150 hands-on activities that focus on wildlife and natural resources. Participants are eligible for Criteria I credit of NC OEE Environmental Education Certification and school teachers receive CEU credit.  Workshop and materials are FREE!  Limited spots - contact Kevin Hining at 336-213-9692, kevin.hining@ncwildlife.org for information or to sign up.

Black Bears - Buckeye Recreation Center, Beech Mt. (11/16/18) *M

This workshop focuses on black bears in North Carolina. A majority of the workshop will be spent learning about the life history and current research on black bears, as well as activities that can be incorporated into educational programs. Information on how to coexist with black bears will also be provided, including a new regional program known as "BearWise". The workshop provides 5 hrs. Criteria II or III credit towards the N.C.
