BOW Fly-Fishing Workshop April 17th, 2021
Event Start Date: 4/17/2021 9:00 AM
Event End Date: 4/17/2021 3:00 PM
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is offering a women-only fly-fishing workshop at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center on April 10th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm
The fly-fishing workshop is part of the Commission’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program. Fly-fishing workshop participants will receive hands-on instruction from trained instructors on roll casting and the basic overhead cast. After learning these basic casts, participants will test their new skills by fishing for trout in the center's ponds. Participants will also receive one-on-one instruction on how to land a fish, knots and equipment set-up, and safe fish handling.
Participants should bring sunscreen, insect repellant, comfortable clothing and footwear. Sign in begins at 8 a.m. A registration fee of $20 covers rods, reels and all equipment, as well as lunch, drinks and snacks. Pre-registration is required and the workshop is limited to 25 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information and to register by contact BB Gillen at 919-218-3638 or email@example.com or visit the Commission’s Becoming an Outdoors-Woman webpage.
“This is the fifth year that we’ve offered this fly-fishing workshop for women only at the Pechmann Center and last year’s event filled up fairly quickly,” said Gillen. “It’s a great opportunity for women to learn how to fly fish in a fun, no-stress environment with instructors who are very knowledgeable and patient.”
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is an international program in which women age 18 and older learn outdoor skills through hands-on experiences. In North Carolina, BOW workshops are held across the state, providing instruction on fishing, hunter safety, target shooting, archery, canoeing, motorboat safety, outdoor cooking, tracking, map-and-compass orienteering, and other outdoor skills.
