Basic Rod Building Course - October 19th-21st, 2021

Due to popularity and limited resources, participants will only be able to register once per 36 months for the rod building course. 

 

This course is free of charge and all tools and materials are provided. Students will learn the basic techniques necessary to assemble their own custom fishing rod. Each student will build a 6ft 6in medium action spinning rod from an IM6 blank, which they may keep on completion of the course. Topics covered in this course include:

· Finding the rod spine
· Prepping guides and handles for installation
· Guide spacing
· Basic guide wraps
· Applying epoxy

The course will be limited to 12 students due to space limitations and pre-registration is required. Due to the length and complexity of this program, it is not recommended for youth under the age of 16 years old.

This workshop requires approximately 8 -10 hours to conmplete. Therefore it will be taught in 3 sessions on October 19th, 20th & 21st beginning at 6:30pm, each evening. Students will work at their own pace under with guidance from staff and volunteers. Epoxy will be applied to threads, as the final step and rods will need to dry overnight. They may be picked up beginning Friday, Oct 22nd.
