RALEIGH N.C. (Feb. 12, 2020) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is adding an in-person public input meeting in Raleigh and two online virtual meetings to seek feedback from the public, agency constituents and stakeholders to help identify issues and options related to Sunday hunting on game lands. These meetings are in addition to the six state-wide public meetings being held across the state this month.

On Monday, Feb. 17, the Commission will hold a public input meeting at 7 p.m. at the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission's first floor auditorium located at 1751 Varsity Dr. in Raleigh.

Those who are unable to attend one of the in-person public input meetings will be able to give their feedback during two online virtual meetings. To participate, constituents will need a computer or smart phone to log on by 7 p.m. The meeting will consist of a short presentation, interactive polling questions and a discussion about activities, values and opinions regarding Sunday hunting on game lands.

The first online virtual meeting will occur on Monday, Feb. 17 and can be accessed at zoom.us/j/340876917.

The second online virtual meeting will occur on Thursday, Feb. 20 and can be accessed at zoom.us/j/623274594

The passage of the Outdoor Heritage Act of 2015 removed the absolute prohibition on hunting with firearms on Sunday in North Carolina that had been in place since 1868. After receiving the authority to allow hunting on public lands via the Outdoor Heritage Enhanced Act of 2017, the Commission began gathering data and public input to help inform its decision on whether to allow Sunday hunting on game lands.

The Enhanced Act stipulates that hunters would be prohibited from hunting with a firearm between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., hunting deer with the use of dogs and hunting within 500 yards of a place of worship.
