Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a transmissible, always fatal, neurological disease that affects deer and other cervids such as elk, moose and reindeer/caribou. CWD has not been detected in North Carolina.
New for the 2021-22 deer hunting season! Submit your deer heads for testing! The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is asking hunters for help in CWD surveillance by donating deer heads at a CWD Testing Drop-off Station.
