RALEIGH, N.C. (August 18, 2010) – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is alerting hunters that the first four open days of dove season on Sandy Mush Game Land in Buncombe and Madison counties are now permit only.

Permits are still available on a first-come first-serve basis through any license agent or by calling 1-888-248-6834.

Because of heavy use by dove hunters during the first few opening days of dove season, and the need to reduce crowding and address safety concerns, the Commission is now restricting dove hunting to permit-only during the first four open days of the dove season (Sept. 4, 6, 8 and 11, 2010) on Sandy Mush Game Land.

In recent years, more than 300 people have hunted on this game land for the opening day of dove season. The new permit requirement establishes a quota of 125 hunters per day for each of the first four open days.
