HICKORY, N.C. (June 9, 2014) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will close the Wittenburg Public Fishing Access Area located on Lake Hickory in Alexander County on June 16 to replace the fishing piers with an accessible floating fishing pier.

The Commission anticipates the closure will last two weeks. Staff will notify the public through a news release and social media when the public fishing area reopens.

Although the fishing area will be closed, the boat ramps will remain open. Other nearby public fishing areas on Lake Hickory include Lovelady, Gunpowder, Dusty Ridge and Oxford.
