PITTSBORO, N.C. (Feb. 16, 2012) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has temporarily closed the Bells Church Public Fishing Area located on Jordan Lake in Chatham County, until further notice.
Commission personnel closed the public fishing area this morning after being notified that a hinge on the pier had broken, due to damage most likely sustained from Tuesday’s high winds. Commission staff was onsite this morning to assess the pier and is working on a solution to prevent this from occurring again.
The pier is expected to remain closed through at least early next week. The Commission will notify the public through its Facebook page, Twitter feed, Conserve and Protect blog and news release when the pier reopens.
For more information on fishing in public, inland waters visit the Commission’s Web site, www.ncwildlife.org or call the Division of Inland Fisheries, (919) 707-0220.
