Some 2,000,000 acres of public and private lands in North Carolina are managed by the Wildlife Resources Commission for public hunting, trapping and fishing, and are designated collectively as Game Lands. This includes hunting on the Roanoke River National Wildlife Refuge, which is managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Wildlife Resources Commission through a joint venture. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission gratefully acknowledges the following government agencies and private companies who have leased property to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for public use (see below). Additional Funding

North Carolina’s Clean Water Management Trust Fund provides funding for projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational and recreational benefits. North Carolina’s Natural Heritage Trust Fund is a supplemental funding source for state agencies to acquire and protect the state’s ecological diversity and cultural heritage and to inventory the natural areas of the state. The following Game Lands were purchased entirely or in part through grants from the Clean Water Management and Natural Heritage Trust Funds. We gratefully acknowledge the dedication of the North Carolina legislature and the Board of Trustees of the Clean Water Management and Natural Heritage Trust Funds in facilitating perpetual conservation ownership of these environmentally important properties.
