Game Land Closings

Due to COVID-19:

  • All campground areas on game lands are closed.
  • DuPont State Forest Game Land is closed.
  • Rendezvous Mountain Game Land - closed starting April 3, 2020, 5 PM
  • Toxaway Game Land - due to closure of the Gorges State Park, access to the game land via Chestnut Mountain Road traversing the Park is closed.


Due to weather-related incidents, gates are closed to vehicular access on the following game lands or game land tracts. Access roads will remain closed until they have each been evaluated and deemed to be safe and suitable for public use.

  • Holly Shelter Game Land: Lodge Road at Ashes Creek and Juniper Road between Lodge Road and Bear Garden are closed due to damage.

Public Fishing Area Closings

  • Bells Church - Jordan Lake, Apex, Wake County - fishing pier is closed, public fishing area remains open
  • Falls Lake Dam - Wake Forest, Wake County
  • Frank Liske Park - Concord, Cabarrus County
  • Fred G. Bond Metro Park - Cary, Wake County
  • Fox Pond - Henderson, Vance County
  • Hanging Rock Lake - Stokes County - due to closure of the Hanging Rock State Park
  • Kings Mountain Point - Badin Lake, Montgomery County
  • Lake Brandt Park - Greensboro, Guilford County
  • Lake Tomahawk Park - Black Mountain, Buncombe County
  • Max Patch Pond - Hot Springs, Madison County - fishing pier closed due to closure of trailheads and access points to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail by US Forest Service
  • Murray Branch - Hot Springs, Madison County
  • River Park North - Greenville, Pitt County - closed by the City of Greenville
  • San-Lee Park - Sanford, Lee County
  • Shelley Lake - Raleigh, Wake County
  • Simpkins Pond - Raleigh, Wake County
  • Smithey's Creek - Wilkes County - due to closure of recreation areas at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir by USACE
  • Weaver Creek - Jordan Lake, New Hill, Chatham County

Due to maintenance, repairs and other incidents:

  • Horse Park - Little Tennessee River, Swain County - fishing area closed for renovation
  • Lansing Park - Ashe County - closed for repairs
